A new alliance of women’s health organisations, consumer bodies, community services, human rights bodies, clinicians and researchers has been convened in the context of the Victorian Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. There is an urgent need for an increased focus on the mental health of women and girls.
The Alliance recommends that gender be recognised and centred as a social determinant of mental health in the development of recommendations for reform - in particular, recognition of the connection between women’s and girls’ experience of gendered violence and poor mental health.
The statement is endorsed by 28 organisations.
