Women With Cancer

Why are women with cancer a priority?

We know that gender impacts how people experience cancer. There are also cancers that predominantly affect women, such as breast and gynaecological cancers.

What we do to support women with cancer

Counterpart connects, supports, and informs women with breast or a gynaecological cancer to live well.

Counterpart (formerly BreaCan) is a service of Women’s Health Victoria, and has provided quality support and information to women living with breast or a gynaecological cancer since 2003.

Counterpart’s highly trained and professional Peer Support Volunteers have lived experiences of a gynaecological or breast cancer and can provide unique understanding and support.

As a community-based, supportive care service, Counterpart complements the medical system and other cancer support services. Counterpart provides a highly responsive, relevant and woman-centred service to meet the diverse needs of women with cancer.

The service’s model is valued and trusted by the health professionals we work with. We never provide medical, legal or financial advice or counselling.
