…connecting women impacted by transvaginal mesh surgery

Women’s Health Victoria has been selected by the Victorian Government to deliver a series of peer to peer support groups for women impacted by transvaginal mesh surgery.

Transvaginal mesh is a specific surgical mesh that has been used to manage pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence problems for women. It has now been recognised that some women are adversely impacted following transvaginal mesh surgery and for many this has had life altering consequences.

Peer Support is recognised as being valuable in many sectors. The idea that someone else has walked in similar shoes, even if their lived experience has been different, cannot be underestimated and there are often many similarities. Peer Support offers non-judgemental, empathic and authentic support. It can acknowledge the experience of others while providing emotional and practical support.

What will the groups do?

The groups will be facilitated by a specialist counsellor. The purpose of the groups are to::
