A new report released today by Women’s Health Victoria (WHV) reveals major ongoing inequities in abortion and contraception access across the state, disproportionately affecting disadvantaged communities in some regional areas.
This report analyses trends in sexual and reproductive health service seeking across Victoria with a focus on abortion and long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). It draws on previously unpublished data from 1800 My Options, a service of Women’s Health Victoria.
In July 2023, Women’s Health Victoria (WHV) engaged Painted Dog Research to evaluate the implementation and outcomes and impact of the Victorian Women’s Health Atlas (the Atlas) from its launch in October 2015 to present.
The Atlas, produced by Women's Health Victoria, is a free, interactive data platform that displays health and social wellbeing indicators, mapped by sex, for every local government area in Victoria.
Victorian health services have provided a united front in support of abortion access in response to the overturning of landmark Roe v Wade abortion legislation in America with hospitals, women’s health services and community health organisations signing on to a state-wide statement of support for abortion provision.
These Geography classroom exercises are designed to enable teachers and students anywhere in Victoria to draw on real-world local data to investigate issues, identify spatial variations, and interpret health and gender impacts.
This article outlines the development, content and features of the Victorian Women's Health Atlas, its emerging value as a tool for schools, and the development of curriculum resources for Year 10 Geography based on the Atlas.
The Victorian Women’s Health Atlas has been developed by Women’s Health Victoria, in collaboration with other state-wide and regional women’s health services and Family Planning Victoria, as a tool to assist in the identification of gender impacts on key health areas.
