This submission to the National Mental Health Workforce Strategy Taskforce highlights the critical components of a gender-informed approach to workforce development.
The success of mental health reforms under way at both state and national levels depends on the availability of an adequate supply of skilled workers. Having appropriately skilled mental health workforces that are able to deliver trauma-informed, gender- and culturally responsive mental health support, as well as to address the gendered social, economic and cultural determinants of mental ill-health through primary prevention, is essential for improving the mental health and wellbeing of Australian women and girls.
