Australia: the healthiest country by 2020

Submission by Women’s Health Victoria in response to the Australian Government public consultation paper “Australia: the healthiest country by 2020”. Women’s Health Victoria broadly supports the proposed national preventative health strategy. Advocates for further preventative action to address overweight and obesity, tobacco use and problematic alcohol use. Comments on the strategy’s socio-cultural context, equity, gender as a determinant of health, and the structure and function of the proposed National Prevention Agency. Advocates that women’s health is too narrowly represented in the strategy, and needs to be broadened beyond just the reproductive function of women.
