Our Vision & Strategic Goals
Our Vision
A society that takes a proactive approach to health and wellbeing, is empowering and respectful of women and girls and takes into account the diversity of their life circumstances.
Our Strategic Goals
Keeping gender on the agenda
Women’s Health Victoria understands that the lived experience, as well as the biology, of women and men is different, and that effective health responses cannot be gender neutral.
We act to promote and inform a mindset amongst health analysts and researchers, policy makers, planners and providers that consistently takes into account the impact of gender. In designing our own heath promotion programs and projects we will model gender sensitive practice.
Promoting women’s health knowledge
Women’s Health Victoria is committed to being a credible and informed voice about women’s heath. We recognise the critical importance of women’s health knowledge and women’s experiences in informing health policy and practice. We act to:
- Facilitate access to quality, current women’s health information and knowledge
- Transform knowledge into action through population-focused health promotion initiatives
- Generate new knowledge by developing and innovating models of service and initiating purposeful enquiry using a gendered approach.
Targeting health inequality
Women’s Health Victoria understands health inequality to be about the differences and disparities in the health outcomes of individuals and groups. Many forms of health inequalities are also inequitable; that is, they are deemed to be unfair or stem from some form of injustice.
We act to promote an understanding of the profound health impacts of disadvantage on women ensuring the experience of the most marginalised and disadvantaged groups is visible and their voices are heard. We will work to influence both policy and practice so that disadvantage is considered and effectively addressed.
Fostering an effective, healthy organisation
Women’s Health Victoria knows that an effective organisation requires a collaborative and innovative culture that supports the contributions of Council, management and staff.
We act to ensure our organisation has the capacity to deliver on our goals, enable and support high performing teams, and foster productive relationships with others.
