Young women and alcohol seminar proceedings

On 4th April 2012, Women’s Health Victoria hosted a presentation by Nancy Poole, Director of Research and Knowledge Translation for the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health (Canada). Nancy spoke about trends in prevalence and patterns of girls’ drinking, the health impacts, and the gendered influences on heavy alcohol use by girls and young women. She also shared the results of a recent study by a pan-Canadian research team on the role of girls’ empowerment groups in promoting health and preventing heavy alcohol use by girls aged 13-15 years. Reference was also made to related health promotion programs, approaches and tools, tailored to reach and engage girls and young women.
