Women and ageing: Gender Impact Assessment
Older women experience the ageing process very differently to men. In the face of an ageing population, it is vital that policy planning and design takes into account the broader social context for women. This context is shaped by factors such as housing options, financial security, social connectedness, discrimination, elder abuse, caregiving roles and living alone. Many national and Victorian policies and programs to promote the health and wellbeing of seniors are already in place. These measures can be further strengthened to take into account the differing needs of older women and men.
