National human rights action plan consultation on draft baseline study

Submission by Women’s Health Victoria to the: National human rights action plan consultation on draft baseline study. Recommends that the right to health, the right to an adequate standard of living, and freedom from discrimination be included in the Baseline Study. Provides evidence for the inclusion of women’s health issues and specific populations of women. Advocates for a whole-of-government approach to human rights, use of a human rights framework, development of a human rights culture within Australia, and application of a gender analysis framework. Recommends that Australia should continue to work towards statutory protections such as a human rights act or charter, and should further articulate our engagement with individual human rights treaties and the UN human rights system.
