Emotional Experiences of Early Parenthood in Australian Families Project
This online resource is a web-based repository of real-life video and audio recorded stories of becoming a parent. Researchers travelled around Victoria and New South Wales to talk to 36 mothers and 9 fathers from a range of backgrounds and family arrangements. Parents share their emotional experiences of conceiving, IVF, miscarriage, surrogacy, adoption, pregnancy, labour and birth, perinatal depression, life in early parenthood, relationships after becoming a parent, and balancing parenthood with paid work. They also share what advice they would give to expecting and new parents as well as health professionals.
The information is based on qualitative research data collectedby researchers from the Social Studies in Health and Medicine (SSHM) Research Program at Monash University. Rita Butera, Executive Director of Women’s Health Victoria, was a member of the Project Advisory Panel.
